Young Lancashire illustrator, Jack Knight, whose work appears in adult and children's books in Great Britain and America, is to have his first gallery exhibition in Lancaster this Summer.
‘Metamorpolitan’ will run throughout June at Lancaster Library. The theme is cities and skylines, both local and fantastical, and visitors can expect some unusual and hugely imaginative interpretations from this artist who has developed a niche for his Zombie-related designs which have appeared in books such as ‘Dr Dale's Zombie Dictionary: The A-Z Guide to Staying Alive’, published by Allison & Busby.
Metamorpolitan is a move away from the cartoon zombie caricatures Jack has become known for. “There may be a piece in amongst the collection that echoes my ‘Knight of the Living Dead’ side, but generally my work for this display is going to be a rich and colourful look at buildings, cities and wonderful architecture,” he said.
Jack, 28, also works with fashion designers, theatre companies, restaurants, confectioners and other retailers.
He said:
“I've spent pretty much my entire life drawing. As a child in Liverpool I would wake up in the wee small hours, sit at my little roll-top desk with my coloured pencils and pads of paper, drawing to my heart’s content. This continued all through school, much to the displeasure of my teachers – except the art teacher!”
“It was the best decision I ever made. Every day I improve what I do. There are highs and lows, acceptance and rejection. Some days I hit a creative wall and then other days I feel like I've tapped into a vein of inspiration. Every single day is a buzz. ”
Metamorpolitan will open at Lancaster Library from 1 June until 30 June and will feature a number of Jack’s vivid and colourful interpretations of cities. All of Jack’s hand painted canvases will be available for purchase at the end of the exhibition but buyers can reserve them in advance.
