THURGO LTD is a fast growing family business. The name of the company, ‘Thurgo’, originates from a small village near Sheffield, South Yorkshire, called ‘Thurgoland’. Thurgoland is the village where the Managing Director was raised.
The business started in 2005, with two members of staff.
In 2008, the business relocated to Newton Abbot, Devon. We developed our own online website, selling a variety of different products, testing the online market. The business exceeded all our expectations.
We then moved to small offices based in Newton Abbot town centre from 2008-2011, where we had 6 members of staff working for our expanding business. At this time, we were growing so quickly we needed to relocate to a bigger premises.
At the start of 2012, we found the perfect premises for Thurgo Ltd to work from in Abbotskerswell, Devon. This is where our Head Office is now located.
This move has allowed Thurgo Ltd to continue the rapid growth we were enjoying in the floorcare market and start to develop a market share in brand new areas. After moving to our new head office, we have developed successful relationships with major brands such as Dyson, Miele and Karcher, making Thurgo Ltd one of the largest floorcare resellers in the UK.
Due to these new relationships we now not only offer the best quality in both Vacuum and Floor Cleaners, but also offer many other outstanding products, from GPS Systems to Lawn Mowers and Pressure Washers.
We try to the best of our ability to pass on our expert knowledge of the products we sell to you, the customer, and offer excellent customer service and aftersales care.
We strive to provide the best prices online and keep them the best on the market.
As a result of high sales and growth we now have 9 members of staff working for Thurgo LTD.
This has resulted in us having purchased our own showroom based in Newton Abbot town centre, to showcase our products.
This showroom was carefully selected out of a large array of locations, which were viewed across an 18 month time period, but it was crucial we found the right location and premises.
We chose this premises in Newton Abbot because it had been empty for lengthy period of time, it has character and is in a prime location. We were more inclined to purchase an original building in order to restore and renovate it, bringing character back into the area, rather than purchasing a purpose built commercial property.
Despite recent trends of 1 in 3 high street stores closing down and relocating online, we feel that although online sales may be the way forward, customers deserve face to face contact and need to be able to view the products and have a “Test Drive” before purchasing their item.
The whole idea behind our showroom is to encourage potential customers to see and feel the products before they take the next step.
We will be offering a wide range of products from our online site in the showroom which will be available to purchase on the day or reserve for collection or delivery, at the same prices we offer online.
Press Release -
‘Entrepreneur Ian Osborne has been operating his various on-line businesses within Teignbridge for a number of years. Starting in a small way from home, he quickly moved to first floor premises in Newton Abbot’s Queen Street. Ian now ships over 300 consumer electronic products a day from his warehouse in Abbotskerswell. It was understandable to see Ian’s move as a demonstration of the way that retail appeared to be going – forsaking the high street for the cost effectiveness and convenience of the on-line trading environment. However – this recent development gives a fascinating and encouraging insight into the future of our town centres
Household names such as Dyson, Miele, Vax and Flymo, are keen to reach as many customers as possible and so in response to encouragement from these big name brands, Ian will be extending his on line business onto the high street. From his newly renovated listed building premises in East Street Ian will be inviting customers to have a good look at his range of products and talk to knowledgeable staff. He then promises to deliver to the customers desired location or even to their car should they wish at a time to suit them – thus offering the ‘best of both worlds’.
Increasingly on line retailers are recognising the benefits of having a physical presence on the high street, so that customers can see and handle the products and manufacturers too, are just as keen to showcase their products back on the high street as they have been to display them in their virtual showrooms.
So in this local pilot, Ian is demonstrating how the online world is progressing. The high street is not dead - it is still evolving, offering different opportunities and showing itself to have an important place in modern consumerism.’a
